Personality Types

The reason I have this category of personality types is because part of my story is about discovering who I was and why I behaved in certain ways. There are three categories of personality characteristics that I am going to talk about here that were part of my self discovery process. I feel it can be helpful for a lot of people to overcome and be more effective by learning to embrace and work with their personality traits rather than work against them. From my earliest days that I remember as a child in school I was different in that I didn't seem to fit into my classmates social circles. Being a mixed race didn't help either. I also had a hard time following along with most academic subjects such as math and history. My memory and processing of information was lacking functionality. If I didn't have some kind of novel interest in something, I seemed to have great difficulty learning it. 

ADD: It wasn't till I was in my mid 30's that I learned that I had classic symptoms of ADD. The type without hyperactivity. I read the book Driven To Distraction. There were major aha moments as I read about the traits. Impulsivity distractibility coupled with the ability to hyper focus at times. Not being very good with left brain type activities caused me to escape into stimulating right brain creative intuitive hands on activities such as BMX and martial arts. I was able to hyperfocus on martial arts for my early life and became a top ranked kickboxer. Sadly people with these traits are 5 times more prone to use substances as a way to stimulate and pacify. I was not an exception and struggled with addictions for years. However learning about my right brain tendencies and left brain fog and that there was a name for what I was experiencing was actually liberating. I didn't feel so isolated any more. RDI Mercy: God introduced Himself to me one day while I was standing on a sidewalk outside our kickboxing gym in 1986. I was a top ranked pro but there was an emptiness in my soul as I daydreamed while standing on the sidewalk. As I looked up above the horizon I felt a presence shining down from the sky. It was so pure and benevolent I was overwhelmed as I wept in tears of Joyful release. It was a baptism of the Father's love. Now I knew for sure there was a God and that somehow this presence I experienced was the answer to everything. There was an attack on my life that ensued in the following years that was not without warrant considering my sinful behavior but I managed to survive. Eventually by 1995 I made my way around to a Church with a strong apostolic teacher and my soul dug in for a while as we sat at the feet of a few unusual prophetic teachers. I got a more solid foundation in the things of the Spirit. 

In 2012 I started attending another very prophetic Church community. One day in Chatsworth California when I was lying on my bed in a daytime nap I was awakened by a lightning bolt in the Spirit. God began a new level of revelation that I talk about in my testimony. The Church I was attending had many amazing guest speakers and that was one of the reasons I attended. One of them was an unusual prophetic minister named Arthur Burk. He spoke of some things in a way that I just had to hear more of. I stopped him at the door and asked for his info. My suspicions were right. This guy was a gem. A sapphire gem to be more precise. His ministry "Sapphire Leadership Group" is cutting edge. 

It is from him that I learned about this other category of gifts found in the bible. The teaching is called Redemptive Gifts of Individuals. It is based on the seven gifts listed in Romans 12. Prophet, Servant, Teacher, Exhorter, Giver, Ruler and Mercy.  I had never heard anything like this before. We are basically all one of seven different types in our souls. It started with the creation of the heavens and the earth in seven days and each with an imprint on our souls. This also applies to cities nations churches institutions and other various entities. My redemptive gift is the seventh one "Mercy" I say all this because my redemptive gift explained a lot of my behavioral characteristics. Arthur describes the mercy gift as being a Mac having to live in a in a PC world. There is a lot I could attempt to write here about the redemptive gifts but I want to save that for the RDI discovery workshops I will be doing. Briggs Meyer: The most recent personality type discovery I made in around 2020 was the Briggs Meyer 16 personality types. We Christians can be quite suspicious of secularly produced teaching about types such as the zodiac signs which are actually from an unclean source (Deuteronomy 18:10-13) and should be avoided as far as personal guidance is concerned. But when I took the Briggs Meyer test I was astonished at how accurate the characteristics of the "INTP Logician" described me. So much so that if someone wanted to know more about me I could just refer them to the descriptions!
